Tannin
Tannins are organic compounds that will absorb oxygen in hot alkaline solutions, thus making good boiler water corrosion inhibitors .
These compounds will decompose at high temperatures so their use as oxygen scavengers is limited to low pressure boiler systems . Tannins form metal complexes and act as corrosion inhibitors, particularly for copper and iron. They are thus very useful for protecting feedlines where temperatures are generally lower.
The Kittiwake tannin drop test provides an accurate means of determining tannin concentrations in boiler waters. Test range 50-300mg/l.
