Sulphite
Sulphite is not found in natural water supplies due to it's oxidation to sulphate, however sulphites can occur in oxgen depleated environments from the action of sulphate reducing bacteria.
Sulphite is used as a sterilising agent in the brewing/bottling industry, often as metabisulphite. Industrial water treatment products use catalysed sulphite as an oxygen scavenger to remove potentially corrosive oxygen from boiler water.
Kittiwake drop, micro-burette and titrator tests enable accurate determination of boiler water sulphite levels to ensure sufficient quantities for effective corrosion protection.
The table below gives a chart of recommended tests.
