Alkalinity
Natural or treated water alkalinity is made up of a number of dissolved compounds, such as hydroxides, carbonates, bicarbonates and to a lesser extent phosphates or silicates.
Water alkalinity is a critical factor in many water treatment applications. Low alkalinity levels can create aggressive or corrosive water conditions. Water treatment products increase alkalinity to create less aggressive, more manageable water.
Alkalinity is often measured to gauge product concentration or to indicate that the correct treatment is in place. It is measured by reaction with a standard acid solution, using a specific pH indicator. The indicator used is carefully chosen so that alkalinity relating to specific chemicals can be determined
Kittiwake alkalinity tests are available from our Drop Test, Micro-titrator and Titrator ranges.
The table below gives a chart of recommended tests.
